I broke a rule

We have this long standing rule in the house - no electronics in the master bedroom. Bedroom is a place of sanctuary, and should be calm, quiet, and free of electronic energy and buzzes. I'm sure all you feng-shui believers will agree with me on this one.

I broke the rule tonight. I am sitting on the boy's side of the bed with my laptop. Writing this very blog post. Hah.

I have not blogged in 9 months. I was running out of things to write about, and then twitter and facebook just took over.

Now with the boy gone for an extended period of time, I want to document all my trial and tribulations of living by myself again.

And thus the revival of Southern Fried Wonton.

drool

My previous post did not make much sense. I was tired and was just trying to capture my thoughts before I zzzzzz...

Dentist appointment at 8 a.m.
Three cavities (I know, TMI)
Dentist tells me those are all baby teeth.
Does that explain why I am still so childish and juvenile?

To top it off, co-worker asks "Is "dentist appointment" what you kids are calling "hangovers" these days?"

If I could laugh without accidentally drooling, I would've LOLed.

seeking: new "hobby"

Well, the news came down - paycut in effect.
The silver lining is - at least I still have a job.
I know - I am tired of saying that.
But really - I can't complain.

So even though I am in lust - with several Marc by Marc Jacobs purses and watches,
I am placing myself on a ban - a ban light to be specific.

Now I need a hobby - something to distract me from shopping esp when I am stressed or bored.
I want something cheap and good, educational and relaxing...

It is time to re-invest effort back into the things I love.

bad luck

Last night as I ran into the room with my laundry basket, I hit the mirror that was leaning against the wall. Time was in slow-motion for about 2 seconds... the mirror leaned slightly forward, and then fell full gravity speed, hitting the floor and shattered into pieces.

For a brief 5 sec, I wonder if I will be struck by 7 years of bad luck.

And it is all coming true like a nightmare.

This morning, I volunteered to make dinner for tonight, as the boy is on 12-hour duty at the base. So I was checking to see what kind of pasta we have in the pantry. As I reached up to grab the pasta, the flap of one of the boxes flipped open and the spaghetti flew out and landed all over the counter and the floor. Sigh.

So I cleaned up, crossing my fingers that this is the only "accident" of the day.

Fast forward 1 hour later, sitting at my desk at work, I reached out to grab my ipod. I guess the headphones were stuck under a heavy object, because as they came flying at me as it got unstuck, and hit my right eye.

*blink right eye, blink left eye*

*one eye blur, one eye clear*

Crap where is my contact lens? I shut my cube door and hovered my face on the ground, squinting with my one good eye, trying to catch a glimpse of the tiny piece of glass on the floor, while trying not to move in case I step on it. I finally enlist the help of my co-worker, and luckily he found the contact lens, laying on the ground in a place that I wouldn't have look.

I really hope the string of unlucky events has NOTHING to do with the broken mirror yesterday. 7 years is a loooong time to be unlucky.

worth it

So this whole waking up at 5AM ordeal isn't that bad after all. I got to work before 8am three out of four days this week and best of all, I left work before 6pm.

Da boy likes it when he gets to have his dinner earlier than say... 8pm, so we did that these past couple of days.

I must admit, it's nice to be done with dishes and it's barely 8pm yet.

go home early

On weekdays, I don't get home till around 7.30 in the evening, that's because I don't get to work till 9am on most days unless someone schedules an 8 or 8.30am meeting. But they should know better by now.

And so da boy and I don't eat dinner till 8.15pm and he goes to bed shortly after that while I stayed up till 11pm.

"We don't hardly spend enough time together in the evening" - we both said.

This morning I was woken up at 5am. Yes 5AM. I got to work at 7.45am. The last time I was in the office before 8 was when my clients are in town.

The minute I turn on my tablet, I got an IM from my team member:

Coworker, Jason says:
when (time < 9:45 && asoonLoggedIn == true) { suspect_something; }
Me, Asoon says:
if (time < 9.45 && asoonpresent ==true)
{buy her breakfast}
else
{shuddup}

whew

I admit I over-reacted. After I got off work today, I stopped by at Kingshighway Hills to the old apartment. I knew it was still vacant. Ran up the stairs to the door and there it is! The parcel from drugstore.com.

And I was mad at myself all afternoon for nothing.

gone

I am a freaking idiot. I ordered a bunch of stuff from drugstore.com last week and forgot to update the shipping address to the new house. I've called UPS to "intercept" the package, and I thought I got a verbal agreement.

Today I found out that they have left the package on the front step of my old apartment Thursday last week. I am going to drive by on my way home to see if it is still there, but I really doubt it.

This really pisses me all, it is my own damn fault I know. I hate it when it is "my fault". Why do I let things like that bother me to no end... ugh.

icy friday

Wore jeans this morning even though it wasn't jeans days. My slacks don't really go with my Target (Ugg knockoffs) snow boots.

Braved the traffic and went to the office this morning. Other than the two accidents on WB I-44, the commute wasn't bad at all.

Parked my car in the parking garage today as my co-worker is out on vacation.

Ran into the VP of Sales as he was heading to the big blue table with 4 dozens of donuts. Nom nom nom nom.

And at 9.30am, I received a mass email from the VP of HR, telling us that the Chairman/CEO is buying everybody lunch for making it into work today in such a lousy weather.

So far the day hasn't been too bad at all, which is good especially on a Friday.

what color is my parachute?

I supposed it is a good thing that the business unit that I am in are spending money on employee training.

In the past two months, everybody in our business unit (except for the new hires that did not sign up in time) went to a DiSC assessment.

In the last three days, everybody were again, mandated to attend a training called "Creating a culture of Commitment Accountability Workshop".

Except, the more I learned about myself, the more I felt like my current position does not make best use of my skills and does not suit my interests. However, it does push me out of my comfort zone and I am learning a new skill every day.

I was planning on going back to school to get an M.B.A., but in light of this recent findings, I am not sure if I want to go through with that plan anymore.

The thought of another career change does scares me a little. I have spent A LOT of time, energy and tears to get to where I am now.

Decisions, decisions, decisions... how I long to be a child again some days.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today is Chinese New Year. If I were still in M'sia, I would be:

  • Eating pineapple tart that my auntie made (photo)
  • Receiving red packets (ang pow) from elders
  • Wearing red
  • Watching CNY Gala on TV
  • Covering my ears to block out the loud popping noise from firecracker
But sadly, I am at work, reading friends' blog back home and living vicariously through them.

personality quiz

Tomorrow morning I have to get to work bright and early because the entire team is going to be put through a DISC Assessment.

I can hear the boy say, "WHA?"

Well folks, DISC stands for:
Dominance - relating to control, power and assertiveness
Influence - relating to social situations and communication
Steadiness - relating to patience, persistence, and thoughtfulness
Conscientiousness - relating to structure and organization
(according to wikipedia)

From what I understand, DISC is similar to Myer-Briggs type indicator, except it is situational base. I could have a completely different DISC profile at work then when I am at home. Meaning, I could be a totally submissive servant at work, and a boss lady bitch at home. Just saying.

So last week, in preparation for this assessment/training, we all took an online assessment quiz. I'm betting—based on how I answer the quiz—that I am very likely a C and High S.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, to learn what type of work personality my team mate has, and how we can work better together (yeah I chuckled at this).

But the most important thing of all... what should I wear so that I won't be late? (It takes me forever and a day to get ready in the morning)

DoubleUTeeEff

I think my blood pressure just shoot thru the roof.

I was checking the bank account and getting ready to pay it when I noticed that there is a charge from Directv for $413.01. What the f?

Everytime I call them... "Sorry mam the system is down we can't look up your account." I ma keep calling them until I get an answer.

Anybody know if I can file a complaint with BBB or consumer reports or anything like that? Not that I would get my money back, but I would like to get my story heard... however small it is.

update 10.08pm: I've called them twice after dinner. "System is still down". Wow. I wish they just DIAF. Ah yes, very mature of me to say that. BLARGH.

after lunch IM convo

me: i have dinner
da boy: you have dinner?
da boy: did you hit something with your car?
me: LOL. Sorry, what i meant is i have lunch leftover, and the portions are HUGE, enough for both of us
da boy: thought you hit a possum or something.
da boy: just for the record
da boy: if you ever hit a deer, bring it home
da boy: i'll smoke it
me: LMAO

first impression

Directv's strip down Tivo's interface is a lot more intuitive. Dish Network's home grown interface is getting on my nerves. BUT, I am impatient. I should give it a couple more days.

For now I'm just happy I can watch real time TV instead of the Tivo-ed programs from 2 months back.

a true test to our marriage

The bedroom furniture we ordered from CB2.com was delivered Saturday morning. In hindsight, it was easy to see how the nightmare begin.

First mistake: Assembly required. Not such a big deal usually, but we're talking about a king size bed here.

Second mistake: Told the delivery guy to put the box downstairs in the dining room. Again, not a big deal usually, but this bed is big and thus HEAVY. However, had I told him to put the box upstairs, I'll be bitchin' about the dirty carpet. This is a no-win situation.

Here is the headboard in its box. We decided to take it out of the box for easy transportation. Already there are some disagreement on how to haul it up the stairs. After some grunts and sweat from the boy (and me being absolutely no help), we got the headboard to the second floor.

Once we got all the pieces upstairs, the bed frame came together nicely. However, that joy was short lived, what killed us was screwing on the legs.

The instruction booklet calls for the bed side ways, as seen in the photo on the left. After some good old temper tantrums and blood boiling by the both of us we decided to flip it over - supported by a foot stool and baby gate (don't get any ideas, it was leftover from the seller). Thank goodness this trick worked.
About 3 hours after we started, our new king size bed assembly = mission accomplished. Knowing that we managed put together this big-ass bed, we proceeded to finish up one of the night stand as well.

The end result is very satisfying. However, if we were a new couple, there is no way in hell the relationship would survive putting together a bed. Heck, the boy's deployment was easier to deal with than this.

Thanks goodness, we survived :)

highway

If you're a big trailer and hauling a huge ass dumpster full of debris, please be considerate and DON'T FLY DOWN THE HIGHWAY at 80mph. What you leave behind is a messy traffic trail of cars trying to avoid you, and the dust, rocks and stones that are flying all over the air.

Bah.
