breakfast

In an effort to "domesticate" myself, I'm learning how to bake... started with something easy:

And here's breakfast for the rest of the week:

All I need is a big mug of coffee to go with it.

What's your favorite "baked out of the box" dessert? I need more practice methinks.

i love a frozen pumpkin custard pie. . . can't remember who makes it though, i don't think it's sara lee. . . who's another frozen bakery lady? it's so delicious, but i've only found it available in the fall. i rarely bake from scratch; it seems so expensive to spend all that extra money when you've already got regular food to buy, too. the cost of groceries nauseates me.

i am lucky enough that DH does all the grocery shopping - he forbids me to invade his territory. But I agree, I know how expensive it can get! I've never made a pie, sounds like I have to add that to my to-bake list! I'm trying to think... but I don't know another "frozen bakery lady" off the top of my head.

You'd better put that kitchenaid mixer to work, LADY!

Oh, I have a wonderful recipe that starts from a box. You'll knock your husband's socks off. It would make a great Valentine's Day gift. Here is the recipe:

Kahlua Cake

1 box Devil's Food cake mix, preferably Duncan Hines
1 (6 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding
1 cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs
1/4 cup Kahlua
1/4 cup Creme de Cocoa
3/4 cup water

Glaze
1 c. water
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. Kalhua
1/4 c. Creme de Cocoa

To make the cake:
Butter bundt pan and preheat oven to 350°F.

In large bowl, combine all cake ingredients. Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing top, then bake until wooden pick or skewer inserted into center comes out clean, about 55 minutes. Cool for 6minutes in pan.

While cake is baking, make glaze.
In a small pan over low heat, whisk together water, Kahlua, Creme de Cocoa and sugar. Pour over warm cake in pan and cool completely. Cover pan with serving tray and tip upside down to release cake from bundt pan. Serve with whipped cream and berries and soak up the domestic praise you will get from everyone who tastes it!
