my best friend's wedding

One of my childhood best friend got married earlier this month. Fashionkitteh forwarded to me the link to their wedding album earlier and while I was pouring thru the wedding photos, within all the lovely pics, lies a pic of the groom Jeet, and two of my really good friends Keen Soon (on left of groom) and Adrian (on the right).

We all went to the same primary school (equivalent of grade school here) and high school, and have been good friends for what seems like eternity. As fashionkitteh said, we went from seeing each other in school uniform, trying to catch the bus to school, hanging out together after school... we see them through falling in love and getting their hearts broken. And finally, my dear friend Jeet got married. Time flies and all is so surreal.

It makes me home sick.

perfect sunday

Da boy and I had dimsum at Wei Hung this morning with Matt and Mae plus all three of their princesses... they are so fun! After brunch we headed to the bakery store couple blocks down and I stocked up on my BBQ pork, coconut, pineapple and curry beef baked goods. Yummy.

Got home and chilled out on the couch where I proceeded to polish off the bag of Flat Earth chips in Wild Berry Patch flavor.

Later in the afternoon, I baked up 6 jumbo muffins and a loaf of bread using the Amish friendship bread batter, but I substituted vanilla and cinnamon for good old chocolate flavor. Also dumped in two cups of Ghirardelli 60% cacao bittersweet chocolate chips to the mix. I love bitter chocolate.

After pulling the stuff out of the oven, da boy and I went for a walk in Tower Grove park. Even though we've been living in the Shaw neighborhood for 3+ months now, this is the first time we ever took a walk to the park.

This is absolutely my kind of weekend, eat eat eat and chill out.

worth it

So this whole waking up at 5AM ordeal isn't that bad after all. I got to work before 8am three out of four days this week and best of all, I left work before 6pm.

Da boy likes it when he gets to have his dinner earlier than say... 8pm, so we did that these past couple of days.

I must admit, it's nice to be done with dishes and it's barely 8pm yet.

go home early

On weekdays, I don't get home till around 7.30 in the evening, that's because I don't get to work till 9am on most days unless someone schedules an 8 or 8.30am meeting. But they should know better by now.

And so da boy and I don't eat dinner till 8.15pm and he goes to bed shortly after that while I stayed up till 11pm.

"We don't hardly spend enough time together in the evening" - we both said.

This morning I was woken up at 5am. Yes 5AM. I got to work at 7.45am. The last time I was in the office before 8 was when my clients are in town.

The minute I turn on my tablet, I got an IM from my team member:

Coworker, Jason says:
when (time < 9:45 && asoonLoggedIn == true) { suspect_something; }
Me, Asoon says:
if (time < 9.45 && asoonpresent ==true)
{buy her breakfast}
else
{shuddup}

Lumière Place

A bunch of us are going to the no-longer-newly-opened Lumière Place tomorrow for dinner. According to the website there are couple of restaurant to choose from:

  • SLeeK
  • Burger Bar
  • The Kitchen Buffet and Bistro
  • Asia
  • Peet's Coffee and Tea
  • House of Savoy
Have you:
1. Been to Lumière and what is the dress code?
2. Been to any of the restaurant above?
2. If yes, what do you think of the food? price?

guilty pleasure

My latest guilty pleasure is the new mini series Lipstick Jungle on NBC. The show is about three very beautiful hollywood women (Brooke Shields, Kim Raver, and Lindsey Price) and their stories.

photo taken from slate.com
To me, however, the ultimate eye candy is the guy that plays Lindsey millionaire boyfriend Joe - Andrew McCarthy, who on the show is sometimes a jerk and sometimes a knight in shining armor. I just found out that he has a diary on Slate, pretty good mindless reading for my lunch break.

What's your TV guilty pleasure(s)?

path blocked

I knew it was just a matter of time before the water spills out to the road. Sure enough as I was heading to work WB44 traffic was backed up past Bowles exit. The 141 exit off I44 is closed and north highway drive is packed with drivers thinking that they can bypass the traffic and was forced to turn around at the "Road Closed" sign right outside my office building.

recommendations for hair stylist?

I really need to get my hair cut, it's been almost 3 months since the last cut and color and the roots are showing. My stylist that does my hair is all the way out in west county (141 and Olive) and with current gas prices and just for convenience sake I think I'm ready to make a switch.

I would love to find somebody that is:

1. in the st. louis city or close vicinity
2. good with stubborn Asian hair (this is probably a tough one to find)
3. does modern cut and color. I'm not looking for avant garde, but since my hair grows out so fast I can take some risk/chances

Do you know anybody that fits the bill? Would you recommend him or her? If so do leave me a comment, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance!

Oh! Chair at Container Store

I'm in lust with these Karim Rashid Oh! Chair. I saw them at the Brentwood Container Store yesterday afternoon. They are pretty comfy and are stackable, which is a huge plus.

We currently have an Ikea dining table in the dining room but have no chairs around it, maybe the black version of the Oh! chair would work well with it.

seahorse rescue

My sister is a long term volunteer at a non-profit organization (Save Our Seahorses) that are committed to saving seahorses in the southern part of Malaysia, in the state of Johor.

There are plans to build petroleum storage around the area, and will greatly threaten the environment surrounding as well as the future of the seahorses. One of my sister's task is to educate the local people. More information can be found on the Save Our Seahorses website.

There is a online petition that my sister is hoping that they will get 5o00 signatures and the current count is 4621 (at time of posting). I'm not sure that 5000 signature will be enough to stop the harm, but I want to give my sister all the support I can get.

If you have a moment and would like to learn about the petition and maybe sign it, visit the petition link at "Seahorse in perils"

Thanks for reading.

whew

I admit I over-reacted. After I got off work today, I stopped by at Kingshighway Hills to the old apartment. I knew it was still vacant. Ran up the stairs to the door and there it is! The parcel from drugstore.com.

And I was mad at myself all afternoon for nothing.

gone

I am a freaking idiot. I ordered a bunch of stuff from drugstore.com last week and forgot to update the shipping address to the new house. I've called UPS to "intercept" the package, and I thought I got a verbal agreement.

Today I found out that they have left the package on the front step of my old apartment Thursday last week. I am going to drive by on my way home to see if it is still there, but I really doubt it.

This really pisses me all, it is my own damn fault I know. I hate it when it is "my fault". Why do I let things like that bother me to no end... ugh.

Should i eat this Do-si-dos?

fish salad, yuck.

Couple of co-workers and I ordered Quizno's delivery. I think the delivery service is new because they did not do a good job at taking orders.

I called them at 11a.m.
Ordered two chicken caeser salad and a mesquite chicken reg.
I was told it will be delivered between noon - 12.15pm.
At 12.35pm I called and asked them where my food is.
At 12.45pm the food was delivered.
Lisa and I looked at our "chicken" salad, and it looked nothing like "chicken".
We looked at the piece paper with the handwritten orders: 2 Tuna Salad.
WTH
So we ate Tuna Salad Caesar Salad.

Y.U.C.K.

The flat bread was the only thing that saved the salad. Without it I wouldn't have touch my lunch.

Da boy and I are having MRE for lunch

Honestly, it is not as bad as it looks. The Cheese Tortellini is really good. Although I feel like I am going to "spontaneously combust" due to the extremely high calories count in those meals.

Rave: Tubtrugs

Our laundry center was out of control. Clothes were strewn on the floor around the washer and dryer because we didn't have enough laundry baskets for the both of us.

Finally, I broke down and decided to buy some Tubtrugs to help with the clothes disaster. After doing some comparison shopping, I ordered 3 large and 2 medium Tubtrugs from the apartment therapy store.

The Tubtrugs were delivered in less than a week, and first impression I love the color. Here are all of them in the living room after da boy unpacked the giant box they came in:

I took two upstairs and started filling them up with my dirty laundry. The flexible handle makes it really easy to carry. I held it like I would a shopping bag or a big purse, and lift it with one hand no problem. No more scratching my knuckles on the wall while trying to navigate the old rubbermaid basket thru the door down the stairs to the basement.

So if you're looking for a more convenient laundry solution, or just for a pop of color, definitely consider these Tubtrugs. You can use these for anything, not just laundry. I plan on getting couple more (in different colors of course) to put gardening tools in, as well as my collection of car cleaning supplies.

Da boy brought home dinner: MRE.
